Mr. Allen is once again showing he is the smartest man in the room. One extra year will not change anything for these kids. They run around with there pants down to their knees and wasting time and money at the mall. The kids are surrounded by people who are underachievers but think its cool to be one. We should cast out these bad influences on our kids. “Selling out” “acting white” why can’t you be successful in life without being ridiculed? Every time a child sees these behaviors they think like all of us they don’t want to be laughed at. We should be laughing at the idea of those who think that education should not be a high priority. Please talk to your children make see that life is tough but its tougher without a proper education. Maybe it’s too late for some, but encourage kids to read, study, and figure out how things work. Tell them to apply themselves and forget stupid culturally things. Everyone and his brother can rap how many can play a cello? It time to alter this course these kids are on before more think “streets smarts” are better than “book smarts”

Lucky, there are a number of African-American leaders who take the same position as you on abortion; I would say that you are in good company. They agree with you that abortion is wrong and that it is greatly affecting the African-American community. All we need to do is look at the statistics and we will see that the African-American community is disproportionally affected by abortion, which naturally leads to the question, why? That said however, no matter what the “whys”, abortion itself is not the cure for other or bigger problems. Keep on telling it like it is to keep the topic front and center; maybe then we will put our focus back where it should be and work on eliminating the “whys”!

Lynette, do you know why the labor movement is fading? What AFSMCE is doing (lying and deceiving child care business owners) is blatant fraud. That’s one big reason why the labor movement is fading. If you can’t get people signed up for your unions in a fair and honest manner, then what are you trying to prove?

Can you point out even one little itty bitty point in the article that is incorrect? No, all you do is ramble and run your mouth about right-wing entertainers. They have nothing to do with this.

Way too much incorrect information here. Shame on the Recorder for even publishing this without checking.
Unions were male- dominated 50 years ago, but so was the work place. That is not the case any longer.

AFSCME is a female-dominated union. I know! I am a proud member!

As a matter of fact most industries that still have strong unions are female dominated – teachers, nurses, offices.
It is this kind of twisting that is taking over the country and returning us to the “haves” and the “have-nots.” It’s this kind of lies, mis-characterizations, and twisted & exaggerated “facts” that will be the demise of our country.
Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann… This writer is in popular company! This writer says she is Democrat? Take a look at the company that your “facts” are keeping. You sound just like them.

Might do well to come off your high horse and open your eyes to see what is really happening around you in the world.

Excellent article! Straight-forward and on point. Today’s youth absorb so much mainstream media and social media and sold on this idea of “thug life” and dirty business as being goals to strive towards. Diversion from this “set-up to fail” cycle is absolutely crucial. I hope I live long enough to start seeing a progressive movement with the younger generation being inspired by and aspiring to be business owners. Clean business brings respect, knowledge, power, money and that “Boss” status so many people want. We have to be as encouraging as we can be to mentor to the youth and push for much needed changes.
