Spokesman-Recorder Nonprofit 501c3 will host its 20th Annual High School Graduation Celebration at the Hilton Hotel located in Downtown Minneapolis in May of 21st 2015. The theme for this event, “Education and Graduation: It’s a Family Affair,” honors the Twin Cities’ African and African American high school graduates.
The Spokesman-Recorder Nonprofit 501c3 has hosted this scholarship and dinner celebration for the past 19 years. More than 11800 people have attended the event, including graduating high school seniors, scholarship applicants, parents, other family members, high school and college officials, community leaders, and corporate sponsors.
Spokesman-Recorder Nonprofit 501c3 will host a Career, Resource and Education Expo event to be held in conjunction with the Graduation Celebration.
The Spokesman-Recorder values education as an essential component to being successful in life. In today’s environment, the obstacles and challenges facing young people, particularly students of color, can be as difficult as navigating a minefield. This is especially important when you consider that more than one out of three African American students in Minnesota drop out of high school, according to the Minnesota Department of Children, Families & Learning.
We hope you will join us in the community wide celebration, honoring the class of 2015. This can be done by encouraging your own or any African / African American graduating senior you may know to apply for the scholarship, submit a picture & bio for the MSR community yearbook and RSVP to attend the graduation celebration.
Event Details:
The 20th Annual Graduation dinner and program officially starts at 6 pm. This year we will promote the Career, Resource, and Education Expo. We will provide exclusive access for graduates to attend two hours prior to the event from 4 – 6 pm.
