Roy grew up in North Minneapolis. He was involved with sports at an early age playing on teams and boxing Golden Gloves at Phyllis Wheatley. He later played basketball and football at North High School. Always a proud Polar, he was forever a Northsider.
Roy attended the U of M and went on to work for Northwest Airlines. During his life he was an entrepreneur operating or managing businesses. Roy was in his element when he managed the Fox Trap. (Who can forget that?)
He spent several years as a skycap at Northwest Airlines until he retired. He loved sports, could engage you in a lively debate on many subjects, sports and politics to name a few. He freely shared what he had with others. His quick wit and sharp tongue always kept you on your toes. He will truly be missed by his family and friends. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2003 and fought a valiant battle.
Preceded in death by his father and mother, Roy leaves behind to cherish his memory his son, Roy (Tiffany) Crockett; sister, Lynne; Lisa and Ted Crockett; grandsons, Cameron, Dominic and Nathaniel; granddaughter, Taylor Jackson; step-granddaughter, Natalie Meeks-Johnson; nephews, Michael, Kelly Crockett and John Hardy; niece, Robin Crockett; his son’s mother, Lucille ” Sylvia” Wainwright; and a host of other loving great nieces, great nephews, friends and companions.
