At the present time, it’s anybody’s guess who will represent the Minneapolis and St. Paul City Conferences in the Twin Cities boys’ basketball game next month.
While St. Paul is in a three-way tie with Highland Park (led by DION BRADLEY), St. Paul Central (led by MARKUS TAYLOR-KNIGHTEN), and defending champion Johnson (led by QUASHINGM SMITH-PUGH), each suffering one conference loss, the city’s counterpart across the river is in a similar situation.
Southwest’s 65-64 victory over South has turned the Minneapolis City Conference race into a competitive one. The win, thanks to a last-second three-pointer by sophomore A.J. RAY, has the Lakers, who last went to the intercity classic in 1983, in first place with a 7-2 league record. Southwest is led by DEMTRIUS CADY (15.2), AKEEM SMITH (12.7) and CAM ROSS (12.7).
South (6-3) is led by freshman sensation PAYTON BOWDRY (15.5), KENLEY FARROW (12.6) and DEVON LUMBER (10.3). DARIUS HILL (21.5), JAMAR BOONE (14.3) and JOVAHN JEFFERSON (13.3) lead Henry (5-3).
Defending champion Washburn (4-3) is led by NICK ANDERSON (12.1) and NOAH SHEPPHERD (11.7). Roosevelt (4-4), coached by former Teddies standout ROBERT MESTAS, have DEMETRIUS DURANT (15.3), JOSEPH GILLESPIE (15.2) and DOMINIQUE MARTIN (12.2) leading a balanced attack.
Can’t wait until March!
