Daniel Blakey was born June 20, 1913 in Yankton, South Dakota. He was one of 16 children born to Isaac and Maggie Blakey.
Daniel was a longtime resident of Saint Paul. He served in the Army in 1943 and was honorably discharged. He then worked at Armour Packing Company until he retired.
Deacon Dan was a faithful and longtime member of Mount Olivet Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed church, family, bowling, participating at the American Legion, cooking, barbering, gardening and winemaking.
He married Ruth Neomi Scroggins on February 20, 1937, and they celebrated 62 years of wedded bliss together. She preceded him in death on June 7, 1999.
Two good names of the BIBLE are Daniel and Ruth.
Daniel Blakey departed this life peacefully Tuesday, February 14, 2012 early morning on Valentine’s Day; he was 98 years old. He will be deeply missed.
To cherish his memory is his daughter, Sharon Robinson; three grandchildren, Leslie, James and Tracey Walker; eight great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Carrie Blakey Thomas; and brother, Zacharius Blakey, all of Saint Paul; and a host of loved ones and friends.
