Margaret Dobbins Gaskins passed away on February 12, 2012. She was born March 13, 1927 to Cornelius and Elizabeth Dobbins in Marshalltown, Iowa, where she attended Morrow Chapel Methodist Church and graduated from Marshalltown Senior High School in 1946.
She married Moses W. Carr and moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she continued to live until her death. She was employed by General Service Administration, where she retired in 1988.
Margaret cared for foster children and received a foster care award from the State of Minnesota for over 30 years of service. She belonged to St. James AME Church in Minneapolis. She joined the fraternal Order of the Eastern Star, Golden Circle, and the Daughters of ISIS in 1958. She remained in all houses until she was unable to participate.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, Cornelius Dobbins Sr. and Elizabeth Dobbins Johnson; husband Charles Gaskins; six sisters, Lula, Willa Mae, Alma, Evelyn, Jane and Jeanette; and three brothers, Andrew, Joseph and James. She is survived by her daughter Christina Gaskins; granddaughter Ca’Leah Gaskins; two brothers, Cornelius Jr. (Linda) from Florida and Willis from Iowa; brother-in-law Raymond Brown and sister-in-law Ruth Dobbins from Iowa; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She will be truly missed.
